Modesty Blaise London Walk - October 2008
Hi everyone, I'm posting this on behalf of Julie:
Modesty Blaise London Walk
Saturday 11 October 2008
Meet at 10:00 at Westminster Abbey (grass outside) and finish at 14:00 in Mayfair
Guided by a London Blue Badge holder, this walk will give Modesty Blaise readers the chance to see the London sights that inspired the locations featuring in the stories about Modesty Blaise and Willie Garvin, such as Sir Gerald Tarrant's Whitehall office, his gentlemen's club and Modesty's penthouse.
Modesty Blaise is loved by fans around the world. The popular series of comic strips and novels of the adventures of Modesty Blaise and Willie Garvin inspire devoted readers to regularly revisit the stories. Readers are currently enjoying the Titan Books publication of strip stories that originally appeared in the Evening Standard from the early Sixties until recently and the books have been reprinted by Souvenir Press and are all currently available. Visitors are expected from the USA and Scandinavia, where Modesty Blaise is very popular, for this special event.
One fan writes: "I like the comradeship that Modesty and Willie have - that they always look out for each other and get through scrapes together. The way they deal with a whole range of people from the lowest crook to the highest political mandarins - showing respect and caution in equal and deserved measure."
Another comments: "My favourite book is A Taste for Death. Willie must exploit his opponent's weakness to fight to save Modesty's life. That is a common theme in the stories, making the most of their strengths and their opponents' weaknesses."
Just a reminder that Peter O'Donnell's son-in-law and grandson will be joining us as will Lawrence Blackmore, author of the Modesty Blaise Companion.
